We are very proud to have students competing in the Rotary Young Chef Competition again this year. Eight students took part in the local heat held at CHS in November. Year 9 student, Ella M, took first place in the local heat and was awarded the Eric Capper Trophy. Year 8 student, Amelia B, was awarded second place and Lloyd E achieved third place with his Griddled Rump Steak dish. Ella and Amelia both progressed through to the District Semi Final, which will take place in March at Cheadle Hulme school.
Once again, we have been extremely grateful to have the support and assistance of chef, Andrew Bourne, of The Alexandra Court Hotel in Congleton, in helping both girls in advance of the next heat of the competition with lots of professional advice and guidance on preparation, cooking and presentation of their menus.
Working alongside our Food and Nutrition teacher, Mrs Thorpe, Andrew spent a whole morning in March with both students, going through each stage of their three-course meals with them, helping them to be more efficient, cut waste and produce the most delicious dishes possible.
Ella's menu:
- Spicy Chorizo, Tomato and Chilli Sourdough, Garnished with Basil Leaves
- Rosemary Pork, served with Celeriac Mash, Tenderstem Broccoli, Pea Shoots, Pomegranate Seeds and Redcurrant Jus, with a side of Apple Slaw
- Fruit Tart - Homemade Pastry with Crème Pâtissière and Fresh Strawberries, Blackberries and Raspberries
Amelia's menu:
- Oeuf Cocotte
- Sea Bass Risotto
- Melt in the Middle Chocolate Pudding
The next stage of the competition, should the girls be successful in the District heat in Cheadle, will be the final round - the Regional Final. We wish them both the very best of luck!
