Congleton schools really made their mark at the Rotary Young Chef competition held at Sharples School, Bolton in April, taking first and second place in the final round! We were delighted that our own Year 8 student, Darcy B, achieved a well deserved second place with his delicious menu. Grace, a student at Eaton Bank Academy, won first prize.

There were five finalists from Rotary's District 1285 in total, including students from Sharples School - Bolton, Byrchall High School - Wigan and Fallibroome Academy - Macclesfield. They were all tasked with cooking up a main course and a dessert in the allotted time of just two hours.

Head judge, John Bainbridge, said that each contestant demonstrated different skills. His tip was to 'keep tasting the food, adding flavouring as the cooking continued' and 'to always serve hot food on hot plates and cold food on cold'. He praised the calm atmosphere in the kitchen and commended all the chefs for finishing within the time allowed.
